Hi everyone, welcome to my final week here at CR. The GMI program does last for another week until Aug 5, but I decided to leave a week early after the completion of my internship at Confluent.

At work, Hannah and I wrapped up our work at Confluent. We were characterizing a new catheter system and testing high and low parameters. Specifically, many steps included glue dispensing and bonding so we utilized multiple fixtures to help us assemble catheters. In the end, we performed tensile tests to ensure certain bonded parts broke above a minimum force. As I reflect on my experience at Confluent, I’ve been able to work on larger documentation that impacted how development lines were transferred from the States to CR. Also, I’ve been able to work closely with product characterization giving me a hands-on view of how certain parameters affected the end product. In total, gaining both larger and specific knowledge of medical device development was very insightful into how specialty medical companies operate.

Back at Selina, the GMI group did the usual. Me and Sid visited La Criollita which is a relatively new place we’ve tried but the service is quick and good. It’s pretty much a simple 3-course meal – soup, entree, dessert – all ~ $9. On Thursday, we went back to Il Vicolo and I ordered the usual Siciliana pizza. The dough has been undercooked recently – I wonder what’s up with that? Still, the pizza was very good and we usually follow it up with some gelato from the place next door. Lastly, on Friday, the GMI gang got dinner with our all-time favorite – La Esquinita de La Abuelo. After having a scrumptious meal there, we said our goodbyes to Abuelo and took a heartfelt photo.

The next day, I visited a specialty coffee shop and purchased a 2 50g bag of coffee that I’m excited to try back at home. After, I headed to the airport and am currently back at home. The CR experience was definitely a fun one. From suffering together in the dorms of Selina to traveling to multiple places like Manuel Antonio, Naranja, and Poas, I had a fun experience with everyone and I’m excited to continue the program back in Houston. See y’all there – peace!
