Academics

Global Medical Innovation (GMI) is a one-year, project-based professional Master of Bioengineering program. The program was created to give students a pathway to their desired career in the med tech industry.

Through a series of project-based courses, GMI allows students to interact with clinicians, researchers, entrepreneurs, and innovators in the world’s largest medical center to validate and explore real-world clinical needs, and then innovate on those needs in multi-disciplinary teams.

Student innovation hapens at both a local and international scale, applying principles of medicine, engineering, business, and design towards a final prototype focusing on either the engineering or business aspects of innovation. This structure produces world-class engineers with experience in real-world projects, teamwork, and technical communication. It also allows our students to learn to meet the needs of industry – graduates of the GMI program are prepared for and valued in professional practice, not just in a classroom setting.

We measure our success based on the students’ success in landing high-end jobs in their desired field, and boast one of the highest rates in the nation by this metric – greater than 85% percent of our graduates have full time jobs in the medical technology measured at 6 months post graduation.

Good ideas are a dime a dozen. Being able to take good ideas and manifest them into something tangible is harder. That skill is the reason my career is where it is today, and that’s the focus [of GMI].
