Hello, dear readers! I’m back with another thrilling chapter from my clinical rotations in Costa Rica. Today, join me, Santiago, and Ravi on an exhilarating midnight hike to explore the enchanting waterfalls along the slopes of Poas Volcano.

Our adventure began in the darkness of the night. Eager to witness the sunrise from the crater, we decided to embark on the hike at midnight. Armed with headlamps and a sense of anticipation, we set off on the trail leading to the Poas Volcano summit. The trail was mysterious yet captivating. As we ascended, the dense cloud forest enveloped us, and the sounds of nocturnal creatures surrounded us. As we trekked higher, the trail revealed breathtaking waterfalls cascading down the volcanic slopes. The moonlight played on the water, creating a glow. The sight was so captivating that we couldn’t resist taking a moment to appreciate the beauty of these natural wonders.

At the first rest stop, the first waterfall we encountered was simply majestic. Its pristine waters gushed down the rocks, creating a soothing sound that echoed through the forest. We couldn’t resist the allure of the cascading water and decided to get closer, feeling the refreshing spray on our faces. This magical moment made the midnight hike all the more worthwhile. As we continued our ascent, we encountered more waterfalls along the way. Each one had its own distinct charm, and we found ourselves in awe of the raw power and beauty of nature. The sound of the water rushing downhill was both invigorating and calming, adding to the mystical atmosphere of the hike.

At times, the trail became steep and challenging, but our determination to witness the sunrise from the crater kept us going. Santiago’s experience as a seasoned hiker was invaluable as he guided us through the terrain with ease and confidence along with our tour guide, Antonio. As we reached higher altitudes, the clouds began to disperse, revealing glimpses of the night sky. The stars shone brightly above us, and it felt like we were walking amongst celestial wonders. It was a surreal experience that made the midnight hike even more magical.

Finally, after several hours of hiking, we reached the summit of Poas Volcano just in time for sunrise. The sight that greeted us was nothing short of spectacular. The crater’s turquoise lake glimmered in the early morning light, and the surrounding landscape was painted orange and pink. As the sun rose higher, we took a moment to reflect on our journey. The challenging hike and the stunning waterfalls along the way made the experience unforgettable.

We began our descent after basking in the sunrise and taking numerous photographs to preserve the memory. The daylight allowed us to see the waterfalls in a different light, and we took our time to appreciate them once again. The journey back was no less breathtaking. The daylight revealed the lush greenery and vibrant flora of the cloud forest. We felt a sense of gratitude for being able to experience the natural beauty of Costa Rica so intimately and that we were finally heading back after an exhausting hike.

As we finally returned to the base, we were tired but content. The midnight hike to Poas Volcano had been an extraordinary adventure filled with waterfalls, starlit skies, and the wonder of nature. It was a reminder of the importance of embracing the beauty of our surroundings and the magic that awaits us when we venture into the unknown. I hope you enjoyed this chapter of my journey, dear readers. Join me next time as I continue my clinical rotations and share more exciting experiences from my time in Costa Rica. Until then, embrace the beauty of nature and never hesitate to embark on your own adventures. ¡Hasta luego!
