Hi! My name is Abby Dowse, and I am so excited to be taking part in the GMI program this year. I graduated from Rice this year with my Bachelor’s in Bioengineering and a minor in Global Health Technologies. Ultimately, my goal is to work in the medical device industry after receiving my master’s (I’m not sure exactly what type of company or role – I’m hoping to explore this more while I’m in the GMI program this year)!

This summer, I will be taking part in the Costa Rica Needs Finding Workshop and Medical Device Innovation Bootcamp during the first week of the Costa Rica experience (but will not be a part of the internship portion of the trip). I am looking forward to gaining more experience in a hospital context and with exploring unmet needs through the Needs Finding Workshop, as I have had very little clinical exposure thus far. I also can’t wait to interact and work with students and experts from a variety of universities and backgrounds during the Medical Device Innovation Bootcamp. I am very excited to explore Costa Rica and learn more about Costa Rican culture, particularly through the food!
