BIRTHDAY SPECIAL

GMI crew @ Lolita enjoying Gelato

We decided to stay in San Jose and have more of a relaxing, quality time kind of weekend. On Saturday, we woke up to a certain someone (Raniyah!) turning 22! So, we decided to spend the weekend celebrating at three different Lolitas. Lolita is close to our hearts because GMI spent a lot of quality time there bonding during the first week in Costa Rica. It is in Escalante and has a bunch of restaurants that you can choose from, which makes our life very difficult because we never know what we want. So, Lolita #1 was El Mestizo where we spent Saturday night, there were a million different cuisine options including  Asian food, Mediterranean food, Peruvian food, Caribbean food, Italian food, American, Costa Rican, you name it (except Indian because it closed down 🙁 ). I ended up picking shitake bau buns because I hadn’t had them in a while. I have gotta say, they were a bit smaller than I expected but were still delicious. Did I miss the avocado bau buns that I usually get? Yes, but these weren’t all that bad. Before El Mestizo, we spent some time at the Multiplaza Mall in Escazu, it is one of the biggest malls in Costa Rica and we wanted to check it out before we left. We checked out some stores, and the prices were not that different than the United States, maybe because we were in a classy part of Costa Rica. We ended the night by buying a sweet dessert for Raniyah and singing her Happy Birthday 🙂

On Sunday, we were craving Gelato so we decided to get an early dessert. The Gelato place was next to Lolita so Lolita #2 that we visited was in fact, Lolita. We didn’t eat dinner there but just like old times, we were playing cards (Uno & monopoly deal), while having a good ol’ time. Dinner was at Lolita #3, Amor de Barrio. Not sure why we keep doing this to ourselves but I once again had a very difficult time choosing from the million options. I ended up picking Jalapeno poppers with some delicious dipping sauce. Spent some more quality time there before calling it a night and preparing for the upcoming work week.

WORK WORK WORK

Waiting lines at Coronado Clinic (and Katy walking)

For work this week, there were not that many new machines we worked with, sadly. On Monday, we mainly performed preventive maintenance on Hill-Rom beds at Hospital San Juan de Dios which is one of the three biggest hospitals in San Jose. It is a national hospital and cares for almost half of the country’s population. These beds were a little old, they weren’t the Progressa Smart beds that we usually work with. They were a little easier to work with though since we did not have to check the screen and take apart the bottom of the bed to clean it. We had a non-stop amount to work through so I am kind of glad it was not too complicated. With these beds, it’s the same procedure: check all the buttons, check the CPR function, lubricate certain parts, and wipe the dust off. Most of the time the CPR is non-functional, maybe because the beds are older. We tried our best to fix them by loosening the screws, but it works best if replaced which is a little difficult since they can be expensive. One of the first beds also required corrective maintenance because the motor that controls the movement of the beds needed to be replaced. The new motor was designed for a newer model and so we did a little maneuvering for it to fit the older bed. There was a difference in the main wire cable between the older and newer parts, so we soldered the older wire to the newer wire. Easy peasy. The next day, we took a break from the beds (Thank god) and visited two clinics, Clinica Acosta and Clinica Moreno Canas, to perform preventive maintenance on EKG machines. Nothing new to report there, just the same old procedure. Wednesday was back to Hospital San Juan de Dios for more boring beds. Thursday was spent at Centro Integrado Salud de Coronado (visited that one before) for preventive maintenance on Anesthesia machines. This maintenance took longer than usual because it hadn’t been maintained for over a year over contract issues. We tripled checked all the leaks and everything looked great!

Also, check out this wheelchair I spotted at Hospital San Juan. Definitely different than any wheelchair I have seen before, and it looks as if they took a regular chair and added some wheels to it. I wish I could have gotten more information on them but thought it would be cool to share!

Homemade wheelchair?? (at Hospital San Juan de Dios)

No fun hiking or beach stories this week, sorry :/ but we tackled a bunch of beds, anesthesia machines, and EKG machines. Can’t beat that. Also can’t beat cooking delicious meals with the Selina crew the whole week and running to get gelato after because why not.

Unfortunately though, due to a certain turn of events, we ended up quarantining all of today. Hey, it wasn’t all that bad because quarantine day basically means movie binge-watch day. We watched 2 movies, took a food and blog break, and now will continue watching who knows how many more movies.

Well, I am starving and cannot wait to eat our Milano cookies, plantain chips, apples (gotta add something healthy in there of course), and KitKats that we stocked up on.

Goodbye!

See ya for the next one (and the last one),
