This past week was yet another very successful week. We officially wrapped up our final side project of the summer. Earlier in the program, we spoke with the head of the breast cancer prevention center here in the hospital, and he brought up a severe issue facing underrepresented communities all across Brazil.

With the main focus of Hospital de Amor being preventative care, they have noticed a large gap when it comes to mammography screenings. They discovered a large percentage of women in underrepresented groups have never received preventative care, causing many to only seek help once it is too late. For the past week, we have done a lot of research to try and find a solution that the hospital could implement to overcome this hurdle.

In terms of our main project, we are still waiting for our 3D printer, but every other non-physical component is ready to go! We are really hopeful that by next week’s blog post, we will have a functional 3D printer to show!

This week, however, has been a really good week for bird watching, believe it or not. Please don’t mind my horrible pictures, but we have been greeted by a flock of the brightest parakeets and Toucans!
