Hi everyone! My name is Rei (Chloe) Guo, and as of today, I am officially a Brown University alum (unfortunately I’m missing my commencement ceremony to fly to Costa Rica). I concentrated in Mechanical Engineering and Visual Arts, but I hope to find a career in the medical device industry. Outside of academia, I was a member of Gendo Taiko, a Brown-RISD Japanese drumming ensemble, and a member of Molí Dance Company (traditional Chinese dance). In my free time, I play gacha games, watch anime, and draw!
In the past, I’ve done student research at the Breuer Lab at Brown University and had an internship at Lenoss Medical, a medical device company focused on treating vertebral body collapses. Both of these experience utilized my skills in CAD, design, and illustration. My education at Brown was very focused on the physics of engineering, so this summer experience is a great opportunity to apply my knowledge and see the impacts of engineering on human lives. I’m particularly excited to be interning at the Children’s Hospital with Alex and Apple—this environment will be very different from my internship at a device company because I’ll be interacting directly with patients and doctors through clinical observations. Furthermore, I’m looking forward to identifying problems and solutions in real time.
I hope that this summer experience will give me even more motivation for my GMI experience in the fall. I also hope that being in a foreign environment will push me to be more assertive and confident. And of course, I hope to make wonderful new friends and enjoy being in a beautiful country!
I’m looking forward to meeting everyone soon 🙂
