Hi everyone, welcome back to another week of Ravi’s life in Costa Rica. Work at Confluent Medical has been going really well (and also super repetitive). I’ve learned so much about catheter development and verification/validation. Currently, I’m working on stress testing the production process at their upper and lower tolerance limits. Overall, I’m starting to appreciate all the work and testing that is put into developing and producing medical devices. It’s crazy how many regulations and specifications there are, but I’m looking forward to learning more about what goes into a successful medical device.

Outside of work, I’ve explored so many new places. After being recommended a Chinese grocery market by the owner (Luis) of “La Esquinita de la Abuela” (also, known as the “spot”), me and Sid went on a wild goose chase to find this mystery market but we were unsuccessful. After wandering aimlessly through “Barrio Chino” (Chinatown), we sadly couldn’t find endless and exotic produce promised to us by the owner of the “spot”. So instead, we settled for some tasty “empanadas de camarones” (steamed dumplings) at a local Chinese place. The next day, we went to “Wong’s Restaurant” – an extremely crowded Chinese restaurant with many options. It was pretty tasty but I can’t help but miss the Chinese food I get in the States. On a positive note, I’m definitely excited to explore the eateries in Houston. The following day, Sid and I went to a Korean diner and got a really good Korean bowl – although we did feel that it was a little overpriced.

Yesterday, after hitting a great workout with Santiago, the GMI program went and got some pretty mid tacos. Today, most of the program went to visit the “La Paz” waterfall but I really wanted to get some produce from the Saturday market. After getting some wonderful produce (i.e. pineapples, papaya, guava, mango, and others) with Santiago, we stumbled upon a large Mexican festival. Not sure if today was some kind of holiday but it was very fun. I got some amazing tacos de pastor and cup elote. Their food was absolutely worth it and I’m sad because I’m not sure if I’ll ever get the same kind of experience again. Well, that’s all the updates I have for this week. I’ll see y’all again same time next week so stay tuned. In the meantime, enjoy a few images of the mystery Mexican festival and Santi, Sid, and me with different taco plates.
